Application Process

The application window for 2021 runs from February 1 to March 15 .

Applicants should prepare the following information before beginning the application process

  • CV (as a pdf file)
  • Letter of recommendation from your primary advisor (graduate or postdoc). Your letter-writer will receive an email with link to upload letter as a pdf file.
  • Short statement describing your interest in the course (<1,000 characters including spaces)

Graduate student applicants who wish to apply for financial support should also prepare:

  • A second letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your academic qualifications Your letter-writer will receive an email with link to upload letter as a pdf file.
  • Short statement describing your level of need and other sources of support available to you (<1,000 characters)

Applications are evaluated by a panel of SPATIAL faculty and admission is offered based on factors including preparedness, potential benefit, and diversity. Admission is competitive and the class size limited to ensure rich interaction among all participants.

Allocation of financial support occurs independently of and subsequent to admissions, and we attempt to balance criteria of merit and need. Our goal is to help all admitted students attend SPATIAL, but resources are limited and we are seldom able to fully offset the program costs for individual students.

Decisions are communicated to all applicants by the end of February.
